There might be tax increases for some, even though Collier County commissioners want to hold the property tax rate at its current level.
For the majority of county taxpayers, commissioners worked to keep the primary property tax rate at its current $3.1469 per $1,000 worth of property. As of now, they are moving forward with the budget process using that figure.
Whether that tax rate translates into a tax bill increase, decrease or whether your tax bill remains the same relies on two factors. One is what the final tax roll numbers are that emerge from Property Appraiser Abe Skinner’s office on July 1. The other factor is a person’s assessment and whether one’s property has a homestead exemption.
Skinner’s preliminary numbers released several weeks ago indicated that the taxable property value for Collier County has decreased by 4.38 percent. That 4.38 percent decrease in the taxable property value from a year ago includes an increase of more than $2 billion in new construction, according to Skinner.
Collier County’s property market value as of a year ago was $107.9 billion, which was a 5.45 percent increase over the previous year. The taxable value on that property was $82.5 billion, a 7.14 percent increase from the previous year.
That is only one of two property tax rates paid in Collier County. There is a second property tax rate paid by all property owners in unincorporated Collier County. That amount currently is about 69 cents per $1,000 worth of property.
